Start your twatter-bleeping!

Ross mentioned the other day that it would be cool to have a blog to update everyone about your gaming progress, major achievements and just general kickarsery and antics in video gaming! Just somewhere to post those achievements that certainly don’t require a full on blog post or even an email but somewhere where you can say a little more than what you can fit on your gamercard. My first thought was Twitter. Nick mentioned it the other day and Dean’s an addict of it and I’ve often wondered if there was any actual use for it myself and this may just be one such use. Also, as we found out recently, Microsoft are integrating Twitter into the New New Xbox experience before the end of the year. I don’t think PS3 users will be getting this kind of integration any time soon (sure you can just use the PS3’s browser but you have to quit what you’re doing first) but the iPod Touch is an excellent twatter-bleeping device so Ross and I will be covered πŸ™‚ So maybe now is the time to jump on the bandwagon?

By the way the twatter-bleeping thing features on this ad πŸ™‚

and another hilarious ad…

Funny u say… I actually signed up to Twitter yesterday to check it out… as i said the other week its a good place for xbox update news as xbox have there own twitter so found out things coming to xbox ie new avatar accessory shades etc before it actually come to the dashboard.

So yeah I think its a cool idea, good thinking!

Maybe could just flag the Review pages as they just aint going to happen and ill put a Twitter one on there like the playfire page?

    • Yeah, good idea if it can be done. Would be cool if you could integrate our feeds and that Xbox one you mentioned all onto one page. There’s some wordpress Twitter related plug-ins or maybe you can just do something with HTML and embedding?

      • phyzznick Says:

The Twitter one here is Sidebar only (ie widget)

Theres a few plugins for is that the same as this one?
All the plugins talk about downloading and placing the plugin in a certain admin directory etc i gather thats uploading it into ur own admin account. But then again they seem to be more for the sidebar.

All the code (HTML-Javascript and Flash) self deletes from the Page HTML when u save draft/preview/publish.
Seems itll only let u insert basic code on the blogs
This is the coding I tried.. It had the best coding, and its straight from twitter for HTML and for Flash (they looked really good too!!)

As far as Ive read blogs u can code… and u can upload 3rd party plugins – which is what most of them are that u find.

      Clearly is quite restricted…
      And is more open..

All I can do is use the sidebar Twitter Widget for this crappy WordPress.. 😦

  2. phyzznick Says:

There shall be no Twatting! Except in the sidebar! lol

We are not allowed any pretty Flash Twitter Boxes for each of us 😦

    Heres why:
    Read this
    Then This

So only baby html allowed 😦 POOOOs!!

Ok so ONLY 2 options is either the Standard Twitter Widget, or I can make an RSS Widget for Twitter.

Both are on the sidebar now, lets have a vote on which people would prefer and how many Twats do u want displayed at once, and do u want reply posts displayed (nonRSS only)?

Once its unanimous ill set everyone up πŸ™‚

Bit annoying theres no spacing between them.. but oh well. Unless on the top one I can put “———-” (or anything u want) which will display at the end of the tweet and push the date to the line under the tweet… (it looks a little messy)
Cant do that w the RSS version, its as is.

  4. They are about the same in appearance ie a bit messy although changing the default link colour might help separate things out a bit, especially on the non RSS one where each tweet starts and finishes with a link. At the moment the black text and slightly less black links all blends in together πŸ™‚

I don’t know which style is best? Maybe the non RSS one because you can easily click on peoples names to go to their page or click the date (why not the message text) to go to that message whereas in the RSS version you can only get to that particular message (what’s the point as you can already read it?)?

Apart from that maybe just display the most recent tweet or so per person so it doesn’t get too out of hand πŸ™‚ you can always click their name to see more. Also could we put them below the most recent comments so they don’t get buried? Might not be so bad if you have fewer tweets though.

    That’s my 2Β’ worth πŸ™‚

  5. phyzznick Says:

All valid points and i agree πŸ™‚
    Will set something up now…

  6. phyzznick Says:

Looked into changing the link colour throughout the site (uncluding sidebar) but u have to purchase a subscription for the CSS upgrade in order to do it.
At from what i can see its free. What have u signed us upto? total betaness lol restrictions everywhere.

The links might be able to be changed manually when u post.. maybe start doing that.

    • has to be hosted yourself. you wanna organise hosting and pay for it then go for it πŸ˜‰

      • phyzznick Says:

Nah flag that lol u want the link color change so u can do it :p
The links will have to be manually color changed in the HTML then. Know how right?
Or I may change the theme? Looked at about 20 of them last night, a couple are ok but lack a few things this one has, so would have to change a bit here and there. Will look into again soon and play around…

    • But we don’t need to!! What you’ve set up is AWESOME!!! I only just looked at it now and it’s easy AS to read when you only have the one tweet! It’s PERFECT!! Well done!! u gt da skillzzzz πŸ˜€

  7. roscopct Says:

Geez? You lost me ages ago. What’s a sidebar? Is that a PC thing or something else?

    • phyzznick Says:

WordPress sidebar πŸ™‚ its that thing right there ———————->
With the recent posts & comments and your nice new Twitter widgets πŸ™‚

You may call it a ‘frame’, its called a number of things in website layout making, but normally a frame or sidebar πŸ™‚

  8. no no, the theme is all cool πŸ™‚ I was only thinking a different link colour would help separate out the tweets better but the way you’ve done it is all good!! The only thing I think this theme is missing is that there’s no way to tell who the poster was like you can with the comments but we could solve that by just signing off with a short sig when we publish a post? For example…
    — Hamish
The above words of wisdom (or otherwise) brought to you by g-u-1-d-0
    or something like that πŸ™‚

    • phyzznick Says:

Yeah some themes i looked at had better link colouring to see them (i can never see your links on this theme unless i mouseover lol)
and some also had the posters name on the post…
      Will have another look.. πŸ™‚

  9. phyzznick Says:

    I like this theme?!
Its links are obvious lol cant miss the orange? even my eyes can spot them πŸ™‚
And the posts have the category, tags and even name of the poster!! just for u master poster guido πŸ˜€

The preview showed the header in it, but when i activated it it bloody deleted it, i was like WTF, and its not saved anywhere so would have to upload it but its on my forkn HD that died about 3 months ago… gutted, back to the drawing board for a new header… literally 😦

  10. phyzznick Says:

Also for the twats on the sidebar do u want the replies to show? or hide the replys? i have them hidden at moment. so it’ll show ur last true tweet, not the replies

    • seeing a reply isn’t much use if we’re only showing one tweet. Best to just show the last true tweet I think?
