Red rings are out – E74 is in

Microsoft have put the Red Rings of Death to rest once and for all – by renaming it E74 and giving it a shiny new Black Screen of Death to replace the traditional Red Rings πŸ˜€

Microsoft recently admitted that it’s the same old general hardware failure that the Red Rings all too frequently announced to 360 owners around the world and as such they have extended the extended warranty to cover the new and improved general hardware failure error, the E74.

Not quite as catchy but this hasn’t stopped IGN from renaming their weekly xbox podcast to E74 in the new error screens honour. It was previously called “Three Red Rings”.

Below is the image that shows E74 in all it’s glory and after that you can see the PS3 eqivalent. Yes, it’s not an Xbox exclusive! Sony too has their own port of the E74! It’s called the Yellow Light of Death! :-p OK so it’s not that great but hey, it’s in beta!! There’s a firmware patch coming out that’s gonna make it blink in time to your own custom theme music!! :-p

I’ve also added a pic of a great parody of the RRoD and as an added bonus there’s a pic of a great BSoD t-shirt so the PC doesn’t feel left out πŸ™‚ As far as I know the Wii doesn’t have any such flashy error message but according to a Nintendo PR they aren’t in direct competition with Sony and Microsoft and therefore don’t need to match the competitors feature for feature and feel that most people don’t want flashy error messages anyway.

  1. Hmmmm, The blue screen of death never looked sooooo nice.

  2. Mmmm, yes, I think I would like to “rack” up an Error E74.

I had this article in the background at work the other day and didn’t get a lot done! πŸ™‚

Touchwood i dont get an E74

RRoD looks better though lol but obviously less informative than the E74.
YLoD very much in beta lol look forward to seeing the updated feature!

Love the RRoD parody, I want that on a t-shirt!! shame i dont have the tits to make it look extra good πŸ˜‰

  4. I wouldn’t worry too much. One thing I read is that the problem may still exist but it’s much less likely to happen now than in the Red Rings days. Good to see that they extended the warranty though, just in case.

Im not worried, it runs cold as (console & adapter), probably need a quart of anti-freeze in it way before i need to worry about it overheating and melting on me like the RRoD hardware.
